The view from the Burj Khalifa, Dubai

The view from the Burj Khalifa, Dubai.

I visited the world’s tallest building in April 2013, unfortunately during a sand storm so we couldn’t see very far. Good thing the technology gurus had installed interactive video screens around the viewing floor that show you the view you’re looking at ‘today’, ‘on a sunny day’ and ‘at night’.

Maybe not surprisingly, the viewing platform level isn’t at the top of the building but at level 124 it’s still the highest in the world and amazing to look up and see there’s still 39 floors to the top! Quoting from the official website:

“At over 828 metres (2,716.5 feet) and more than 160 storeys, Burj Khalifa holds the following records:

  • Tallest building in the world
  • Tallest free-standing structure in the world
  • Highest number of storeys in the world
  • Highest occupied floor in the world
  • Highest outdoor observation deck in the world
  • Elevator with the longest travel distance in the world
  • Tallest service elevator in the world”

This is a very popular attraction and you need to book in advance to secure a time to visit. If you don’t book in advance you might find yourself looking forlornly at screens like these, the weekend we visited – with the only available time at 11.46pm on Saturday night.

We strongly recommend you book tickets online in advance.
